Helping to protect the local wildlife in Lancashire

Help us look after the landscape you love. Use public transport, sit back, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Remember, every sustainable choice contributes to preserving the natural beauty of Lancashire and Cumbria.

Sustainability

We are committed to sustainable practices that minimize our impact on the environment. From reducing waste to conserving resources, sustainability is at the core of our mission.

Car-Free Days Out

Join us in exploring the beauty of our region without relying on cars. We’ve partnered with Visit Lake District Car Free Days Out which encourages visitors to leave their cars behind and enjoy attractions by foot, bike, boat or public transport. By promoting car-free days out, we contribute to a greener future and wider access to leisure, culture, and nature.

Green Energy Tariff

Our commitment extends to energy choices. We offer a green energy tariff that supports renewable energy sources. By opting for this tariff, you contribute to a cleaner planet while enjoying reliable energy services.

Pillows and Plastic

We are reducing our impact on the environment by not supplying extra bed linen or towels during your stay. Millions of gallons of water are used to wash towels and bedding that have only been used once, every day. There are, however, washing machines in the apartments where bed linen and towels can be washed should you need to do so. Thank you for helping us to conserve the earth's vital resources by reducing unnecessary laundry.

In order to reduce plastic in our waste stream, we only use refillable bottles for complimentary shampoo/shower gel in our accommodation.

EV Charging

As part of our eco-friendly initiatives, we provide electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, you can charge your EV conveniently at our locations.

Helping Local Communities and Charities

We actively engage with local communities and support charitable organisations. From volunteering efforts to fundraising events, we strive to make a positive impact where we operate.

Carbon Footprint

We regularly assess our carbon footprint and implement strategies to reduce it. Transparency and accountability drive our efforts.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, we’re committed to staying at the forefront of sustainability. Our future plans include expanding renewable energy adoption, enhancing community partnerships, and advocating for responsible practices.

Our contribution

The Lancaster Canal forms a valuable wildlife corridor through towns and farmland. Originally man-made, it has become naturalised over time, enabling species to survive and thrive. The whole of the Lancashire section of the canal is a designated Biological Heritage Site and is noted as the largest body of water in the county. In summer, the banks are rich in wildflowers. Seed heads and berries grace the autumn days, and winter frost can be spectacular on the waterside plants. In spring, the trees are bursting with buds, and birds are busy with nesting along the banks — be sure to look out for swan pairs and native ducks.

To support the Canal & River Trust, we sell eco-friendly duck and swan food at our reception. All funds raised go towards the trust, and we think it's a great way to keep our wildlife and our guests happy without compromising on the health of the animals. Find out how you can also donate to the trust by clicking the button below.

The Countryside Code is a fantastic guide to help us respect, protect and enjoy this beautiful landscape. You can view the full code here.
