Country bumpkin D’Artagnan comes to the big city with a big dream: to become a Musketeer. But when he accidentally becomes embroiled in the sinister schemes of Cardinal Richelieu, it doesn’t seem likely he’ll survive long enough. Especially as this would-be Musketeer is hiding a huge secret: “he” is really a “she”… Take a swashbuckling adventure through Lancaster’s beautiful Williamson Park this summer, as D’Artagnan teams up with the legendary Three Musketeers, Porthos, Athos and Aramis, in a death-defying quest to save the life of a loving Queen. Inventive stagecraft, witty dialogue and energetic swordplay will bring Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel to life in a brand new adaptation with a thoroughly modern twist. Thrill as D’Artagnan takes on three duels at once! Gasp as Milady weaves her evil intrigues! Cheer as the Musketeers save the day at the last possible moment (we hope!) Schools workshops are available to accompany these performances, specifically tailored for your group. These are available for both primary and secondary schools. Please click here for more details. The Dukes play in the park is a summer treat not to be missed. Tuesday 3 July – Saturday 18 August 7.15pm The Dukes, Moor Lane, Lancaster, LA1 1QE

Get Your Motor Running for Leighton Hall’s Motorcycle Hill Climb SPEED DEMONS are revving up ahead of a popular motorcycle event that takes place on Sunday, September 23rd. For the fourth time, Carnforth’s Leighton Hall invites visitors to enjoy an exhilarating day of racing at its Motorcycle Hill Climb event – and it’s set to be the best yet. A real challenge for riders, the track is 220 metres in length, undulating and at an incline with one 50 to 60-degree bend around 50 metres from the start line. Leighton Hall is steeped in history and heritage and is the perfect backdrop for this annual event, which welcomes vintage as well as modern machines. Organiser Ian Sherrard said “For me there is nothing more exciting than witnessing the sights, sounds and smells of race day, but it’s not just about the racing; there are commentaries throughout the day, autojumble/trade stands and club displays”. If you’re planning to attend, the fun kicks off at 9:30am with practice runs and racing starts at 1pm until 5pm. There will be awards for the class winners, including the Leighton Hall Cup for “the overall fastest time of the day” and visitors will get a close-up view of the action, as well as have the chance to see the machines in the paddock. As well as on site catering, the Hall’s grounds, garden, and tearooms will be open but the Hall itself will be closed for the day. Unfortunately due to health and safety dogs are not allowed at this event. There are lots of outdoor activities for younger visitors to enjoy. As the Christmas lights twinkle on trees throughout the town we hope that visitors and locals will kick off the Festive season in style in picturesque Kirkby Lonsdale this year! The town is a very popular destination at Christmas time. The town’s attractive setting, nestled above the River Lune, the array of interlocking streets and squares and a main shopping street boasting one of the best ranges of independent shops in the region gives it a very special appeal in the festive season. Once more there will be a chalet village in the heart of the town for the Christmas fair weekend. Wooden chalets will be clustered around the market monument offering shoppers a wide range of gift items from near and far. We will also have an indoor market at Lunesdale Hall with more gift and craft stalls, including jewellery, Christmas decorations, art, soft furnishings and more. In addition Christmas crafts for children, the Santa’s grotto and of course the largest tree in the town means the Market Square will have a unique appeal for this year’s event.
